Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a powerful and meaningful word that guides my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at The Crestone Senior Living in Olathe, Kansas, the start of a new year feels like a time to reset, refocus, and prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. My chosen word becomes an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am inspired by how much my Word of the Year has influenced my journey.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was growth. This theme mirrored The Crestone’s journey as we opened our doors and embarked on building a thriving community. Growth guided my decisions, relationships, and progress throughout the year. Every choice centered on forward momentum, constantly asking myself, “How can this decision drive professional success and challenge me to grow?”
This focus on growth helped me develop as a leader and inspired a mindset of continuous improvement. It allowed me to strengthen connections with residents, families, and team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and success.
The lessons from 2024 will shape my goals and guide me as I step into 2025. I plan to build on the momentum created this year, driving The Crestone toward achieving ambitious objectives. These goals include reaching 100% occupancy, improving team member retention, and continuing to deliver exceptional service to residents and families.
For 2025, my Word of the Year is abundance. This word reflects a mindset of thriving and creating opportunities for success, growth, and connection in every area of our community. Abundance will guide our efforts to foster a culture where residents, families, and team members flourish.
This theme is about going beyond the basics to cultivate joy, innovation, and excellence. It represents the commitment to expanding opportunities, deepening relationships, and building on the foundation of growth established in 2024.
As 2025 approaches, I reflect on the lessons of 2024 and embrace the opportunities ahead. Choosing a Word of the Year isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
