Crestone Summer Safety Tips

Category: Technology and Safety

Author: Luis Palos Munoz, Plant Operations Director

As summer heats up, we at The Crestone Senior Living prioritize maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our older adult residents. Rising temperatures present unique challenges, especially in our senior living community, where residents are more vulnerable to heat-related issues. Our maintenance team follows some essential safety measures to ensure a safe, smooth-running, and pleasant summer for everyone.

We inspect air conditioning units regularly to ensure they function correctly and replace air filters to maintain air quality. Thermostats are set at comfortable temperatures, and cooling is monitored in common areas and resident rooms.

Team’s Maintenance and Safety Measures

  • Provide shaded seating in outdoor areas
  • Inspect and repair walkways to prevent trips
  • Increase pest control to keep areas free from insects
  • Check ventilation in common areas and kitchens
  • Inspect electrical systems to prevent overloads
  • Clean roofs and gutters to avoid leaks and water damage
Heat Awareness flyer with prevention checklist, risk factors, clinical signs of heat exhaustion, and steps to take if you think you have heat exhaustion. Compiled by Brooke Glenn, RN, Regional Wellness Director of Programming.

We educate residents on staying hydrated and avoiding peak heat hours by distributing flyers and holding meetings. We also promote indoor events during extreme heat to keep residents engaged and safe.

In our community, we discuss heat exhaustion prevention and provide guidance on what to do if it occurs. We also service all air conditioner systems to prevent breakdowns that could lead to high heat within the community. A valuable summer safety tip for all Arrow communities is to clean and service AC systems regularly to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures.

Promoting summer safety can help drive and support occupancy in our community by quickly addressing any reports of high temperatures or humidity in rooms or common spaces. This ensures residents remain happy and satisfied with their living environment.

Following these tips ensures The Crestone Senior Living remains safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for all residents and staff throughout the summer months. Our dedication to maintaining a secure environment is essential to everyone’s well-being.
