Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: Luis Palos, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at The Crestone Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Prioritizing First Impressions

For our spring refresh, my team takes a comprehensive approach when evaluating community needs. We first focus on areas that impact curb appeal and first impressions. From there, we assess what most directly affects residents’ daily experience.

This process helps us decide which projects need immediate attention. It also helps us identify which items we can address later.

One recent seasonal project involved cleaning all courtyards and preparing flower pots for new spring flowers and seasonal décor. This project supported the upkeep of our curb appeal. It also created welcoming outdoor spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.

To stay organized, we follow a detailed building-wide schedule. My team works together to create task lists, review progress, and maintain strong communication. This keeps everyone aligned and helps ensure no detail gets missed.

Strengthening Vendor Communication

One common issue during spring startup is increased ant activity after new mulch installation. The issue often begins in the courtyards before spreading into the community. This can affect dining rooms and resident apartments.

To address this proactively, we coordinate closely with our pest control provider. As soon as we confirm mulch installation dates, we schedule pretreatment services.

This year, we have greatly improved communication with our vendors. I plan to continue strengthening those partnerships moving forward. Strong communication helps us address recurring seasonal challenges early. It also prepares us for unexpected issues as they arise.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure The Crestone Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
