Arrow Senior Living is known for doing things a little differently and challenging the status quo within the industry. It’s just who we are! Even with all the technological conveniences of today such as social media and websites, it is still common to meet individuals with a skewed perception of what senior living looks like. In this blog, I want to share my senior living journey, why I remain committed to the industry, the biggest myth I believe exists, and how to help others overcome the myths surrounding our beautiful Crestone Senior Living community and services.
As a licensed nursing home administrator, I hold a great passion for older adults and ensuring they have quality places to thrive through the end of life. Additionally, I am deeply passionate about leadership. By combining these two passions, I’ve discovered the perfect role as an Executive Director in senior living!
I actively engage with our community daily for numerous reasons; this role brings immense reward. Currently, excitement is mounting for our opening date among the staff, residents, and their families. It’s truly gratifying to interact with soon-to-be residents, discussing their plans for their apartments, the events they intend to participate in, and the friendships they are already cultivating.
The greatest myth about senior living suggests residents must sacrifice their independence, preferences, hobbies, and time with friends and family. At communities like Crestone, this couldn’t be further from the truth. The culture of senior living is evolving positively; it’s not what it used to be. Transitioning into a senior living community can mark a new beginning, where individuals are free to engage in activities they love without the burden of home maintenance, and where friends and family can come and go as they please. There’s reassurance in knowing that care is readily available, eliminating the need for further relocation.
To dispel this myth and assist prospective residents and their families and friends, I facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the offerings available as we prepare to open our community. When concerns arise about independence or perceived sacrifices, I emphasize that this will be their home. Residents will have the freedom to lead their lives as they wish, with support readily accessible when needed. I often reassure residents that after they move in, the toughest decisions they’ll face are what to order from the extensive menu or which event to attend next.
I hope you found this helpful, and I encourage you to share it with others because here at Arrow, we are committed to reshaping the perception of senior living! Search #whatseniorlivinglookslike, and you will find so many great things that happen in our community every single day.
